Zusammenfassung: In diesem Beitrag werden erstmals die statistischen und räumlichen Strukturen des Vornamenschatzes im 20. Jahrhundert für Gesamtdeutschland erforscht. Datenbasis sind die Telefonanschlüsse von 1998, in denen die Geburtsjahrgänge von etwa 1920 bis 1980 vertreten sind. Die Untersuchung der 253 häufigsten, das heißt je mit mehr als 20.000 Telefonanschlüssen repräsentierten Namen ergibt, dass drei Viertel von ihnen markante Verbreitungsbilder aufweisen und dass diese sich in zwölf Typen ordnen lassen (Karten 2-26). Generell erweist sich eine enorme areale Diversität als eines der Hauptkennzeichen des Vornamenschatzes im 20. Jahrhundert. Ihre Dokumentation und Erklärung stellen sich als dringende Forschungsaufgaben. Anhand einiger Beispiele (Karten 27-35) wird aufgewiesen, dass mit den im ‘Deutschen Familiennamenatlas’ entwickelten Verfahren die Möglichkeiten gegeben sind, auch die Erstellung eines Deutschen Vornamenatlasses ins Auge zu fassen.

Abstract: In this article, the statistical and areal structures of the treasure of first names are studied for the first time in all of Germany in the 20th century. The telephone connections as of 1998 form the data base, in which the people born between 1920 and 1980 are represented. The examination of the 253 most frequent names, which means each appears in more than 20.000 telephone connections, reveals that three quarters of them display very distinctive pictures of distribution and that these can be divided into twelve types (maps 2-26). In general an enormous areal diversity is the main characteristic of the treasure of first names in the 20th century. Their documentation and explanation call for urgent tasks of research.
